Woooooohoooooooooooooo! Just noticed this over on the QuakeCon website:
Santa Monica, CA - July 23, 2003 - Prepare for DOOM 3™! id Software™ and Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) are bringing DOOM 3 to QuakeCon 2003. The world's most legendary multiplayer gaming event will host the first-ever opportunity for fans to play DOOM 3 multiplayer. In Dallas at the Adam's Mark Hotel from Aug. 14 - 17, QuakeCon attendees will go toe-to-toe at the Activision/id Software booth in the ultimate sneak preview of the most anticipated game ever.
"What better way to celebrate QuakeCon than to unveil to our fans a preview of DOOM 3 multiplayer," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "While everyone knows that DOOM 3 is the most terrifying and scary single player experience ever created, multiplayer delivers the intense competitive action that our fans can count on. It's a natural to debut the DOOM 3 multiplayer experience at QuakeCon, the world's preeminent fan-based multiplayer gaming event." Head on over there for the full release.

First up is the DoomRepublic. Quite a nice looking site worth having a peek at that's for sure, good luck to the guys over there!
Next up is a Half-Life 2 site! The Half-Life 2 Portal (hmm nice to see an original name). Which is being run by a mate of mine, although I actually did most of the work setting it up and getting it running, which is why it looks a little like D3P. Pretty empty at the moment, but looking good, damn looks better then D3P, I've out done myself again, time for a D3P makeover soon I think! Hopefully he'll do as well as the D3P no chance!

Gotta couple of interesting webpages for you to have a look at:
"No one is looking foward to the release of Doom III more than Greg Tanner. Greg, a 27-year-old computer gamer, intends to quit his job, sell his car, and break-up with his girlfriend when iD Software's new first-person action game is released.
Greg's reasoning is sound. He doesn't want to be burdened with real-life issues, which would only distract him from his computer-gaming goals." Check the full thing out over on The Toque. Next up is a preview (the words 'written by a HL2 fanboy who really doesn't understand very much about games/computers and technology in general' comes to mind, but what the hell):
"Doom 3 is crippled by an obsession with graphics. Vertex shaders are not the holy grail of grames, nor are realtime shadows. ID should start thinking about features like enemy AI, physics and more realistic character animation." Hmm see how many mistakes (cough pixel shaders *not* vertex shaders for example) you can find in the complete preview.

3D Action Planet's site The Phobos Lab e-mailed John Carmack about system requirements (thanks Chapstick for pointing this out), here's the run down:
1GHz CPU 256MB RAM GF1 or Radeon 7xxx series card Well there you have it, you will be talking low resolution and low detail, but it will be playable on this system.

Yup just a month to go until the major LAN fest of the year QuakeCon. As previous years hopefully we'll have some extra bits and peices released of DOOM 3.
There has even been rumour of a playable demo (and do take note of the word rumour, which means unlikely).
From the QuakeCon FAQ:
"1.15 - Can you tell me what id will demonstrate, release, or announce at QuakeCon? No, we wish we knew. Don't bother asking if Doom III (or a demo thereof) will be released at QuakeCon. It's highly unlikely. And if you insist on asking anyway, we may have to lie to make you look foolish later on." So that's the official position. Still we should at least be hoping for a couple of screenshots.
